London Central T 1051. A651 THV. seen in Bexley Road, Erith. on route 229 Thamesmead (Town Centre), Crossway, Abbey Wood, Abbey Road, Belvedere, Erith, Bexleyheath, Bexley, Hurst Road,
Sidcup, Sidcup (Queen Mary’s Hospital). Bound for Sidcup. The 229 was a replacement route for the 698 trolleybus between Bexleyheath and Woolwich via Erith. Now it only goes as far as Thamesmead. Now only the 469 goes to Woolwich along the bottom road, but as it goes round the Abbey Estate in the Woolwich direction and via Slade Green and Barnehurst to Bexleyheath it means increased journey times for those who use it.

On the left of the photograph, Erith Town Hall. and behind it and the bus the two tower blocks in Saltford Close.

T 1051. A651 THV. about to negotiate the Bronze Age Way roundabout. It was at this point that the Wheatley Arms public house stood, named after the Wheatley family who were important land owners it the area. The only thing to carry the name now is Wheatley Terrace a dirty little back street.
