Islington

In Islington High Street, Angel we see RM 29. OYM 453A. (ex VLT 29) bound for Finsbury Park Station. This and the bus in the picture below are examples of the refurbished routemasters. This took away many of the distinctive features. For example replacing the quarter drop windows with hoppers, the ones at the front being dummies only.

Islington High Street again at the Angle Station stop we see RM 875. OVS 940, (ex WLT 875) on route 19 to Battersea Bridge. As in this photograph and the one above, many routemasters have been re-registered some time. The number plates being valuable commodities these days. Companies are moving some of the registrations to newer vehicles in their fleets, as cherished numbers.

At the same bus stop as previously we see RM 897. WLT 897. and RML 2401, JJD 401D. both on route 38 for Victoria. Both buses have 'Route Branding' with large number '38' and places visited en route, along with large 'To and from Saddler's Wells.' A very hot day in August all windows on both buses are wide open, including those in the front upper saloon.

Now at Islington Green is RML 2280. CUV 280C. on route 38 and RML 2588 JJD 588D. on route 73 both bound for Victoria but by very different routes. The statue is of Sir Hugh Myddleton, pioneer of London's water supply

RML 2719. SMK 719F. Route 73 for Victoria Station. The 73 is soon to become converted to Articulated bus operation, some are not happy about this. Their are complaints of buses taking up more road space. Those long riders used to a seat upstairs complain about their being fewer seats with two thirds of passengers having to stand. It look from this photograph that on this hot August day the front windows are locked shut, perhaps to prepare passengers for the hot stuffy ride on modern buses.
