286 Rochester Way


Kentish Bus running route 286 along Rochester Way, Eltham, seen in the snow, February 1994. The route at the time was from Greenwich, Cutty Sark to Eltham, Southend Crescent. This is a  Dennis Dart,. in the livery of Transcity. The tender 
was won by Transcity of Sidcup for which they acquired these brand new Plaxton Pointer bodied vehicles. The Company was then purchased by Kentish Bus and fleetname stickers and legal lettering were applied prior to being painted into Kentish Bus livery over quite a long period. On 24 January 1988 the route was extended from Eltham to Sidcup and Queen Mary's Hospital. Kentish bus won the route on 29 October 1993.

In the 1970's this was route 108, Bow, Blackwall Tunnel, Greenwich, Blackheath, Eltham Church, and Southend Crescent on Monday's to Friday's. In the 1960,s this was route number 108a.

This part of the Rochester Way is near Well Hall roundabout. On the left is St Barnabus Church, and on the right in the distance is Well Hall Cinema.

Coming forward a few years, this is the same place as above seen in the opposite direction on 28 December 2000. St Barnabus Church can be seen on the right-hand side of the road. Snow is also visible in this picture..

The route is now run by Arriva Kent Thameside. They took over from Kentish bus in October 1996.
