Quinova Chunks
Thanks to Anglesey Natural Foods for supplying samples of Quinova to try.

Quinova is a new product which seems to be designed to compete with Quorn.  Quinova should do better with some section of the market because it is suitable for vegans, whereas Quorn contains egg. It is also good for people with allergies as because not only does it not contain milk or egg, but is also gluten free.  The below blurb is from the producer's website:

"Quinoa grain is indigenous to the high mountains of the Andes and was the sacred food of the Lost Empire of the Incas.  The grain is not tainted by any genetic modification other than natural selection of farm varieties by the local growers over the centuries. Quinoa is grown using environmentally friendly farming methods and the purchase supports the incomes of the indigenous peoples of the Andes. Quinoa has been one of the best kept secrets of the food world as it is the most nutritious of all the grains. Anglesey Natural Foods have now harnessed this excellent health packed grain by making it available in a convenient, great tasting and easy to use new food, Quinova."

What did  Vegetarian Centre think of Quinoa chunks?
We tried Quinova chunks by making a simple sweet & sour noodles stir-fry.  Simon, Maria and Darren will give their opinions below.

Simon (vegetarian).  On first look, the pieces seemed quite anaemic but this was fine as they gained colour after cooking.  The pieces have a good texture and also a strong unique flavour.  However, the sauce we used was more powerful than the flavour of the pieces. I would recommend this as a good alternative to Quorn.

Maria (meat eater). I didn't like these at all and were prefer chicken any day!

Darren (meat eater). Awaiting Comments.
